The captain of the ill-fated cruise ship Costa Concordia has just arrived in court for his trial. Francesco Schettino is charged with dereliction of duty, manslaughter and abandoning ship.
The charges stem from the Concordia wreck last year in which 32 people were killed. The case is expected to involve hundreds of witnesses and plaintiffs, but today's proceedings may be delayed by a lawyers' strike.
