LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Las Cruces City Council will consider extending an extreme drought proclamation which restricts the use of certain fireworks during a regular council meeting Monday afternoon.
Council had already voted in favor of the proclamation in early June, but it is set to expire July 3rd.
State law allows municipalities to issue such declarations for only 30 days.
Council must vote again in order to continue the ban on aerial and other more dangerous types of fireworks within city limits for the 4th of July holiday.
The fire marshall said the area needs about 4 inches of rain so all types of fireworks could be safely used.
Council meets Monday at 1 p.m. at city hall.
