El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Texas pro-choice advocates are celebrating a victory today, after cheering protesters prevented a vote on legislation that would create tougher restrictions on abortions.
State Representative Naomi Gonzalez was at the marathon session last night and flew into El Paso this morning. She shared what the environment was like.
"Last night was absolute chaos. It was pandemonium, obviously over Senate Bill 5, and you know, it really was a historical moment in Texas legislative history," said Gonzalez.
However, the fight over the legislation isn't over yet. Governor Rick Perry has called another special session scheduled to start Monday. It will consider regulation of abortion procedures, providers and facilities, funding of transportation infrastructure projects, and establishing a mandatory sentence of life with parole for a capital felony committed by a 17-year-old offender.
