EL PASO, TX (KTSM) — Electric bills soar this time of the year because of heat, but many may be spending more than they have to.
Old refrigerators typically use three to four times more electricity than newer models. El Paso Electric is now going around the city picking up old refrigerators and freezers and even paying $30 for each appliance.
The Housing Authority of the City of El Paso recycled 60 old refrigerators Wednesday and received $1800.

The appliances must be in working condition.
