El Paso, TX (KTSM) — An entire brigade is being slashed at Fort Bliss as the Army begins cutting forces across the country.
The Army plans to reduce the number of active duty combat brigades from 45 to 33 nationwide as part of a restructuring plan that will ultimately cut the size of the Army by 80,000 soldiers.
Fort Bliss now says the 3rd Brigade is being cut. There are 3,500 soldiers in that brigade, otherwse known as the "Bulldog Brigade." Most of those soldiers will be reassigned to other brigades within Fort Bliss. Major Joe Buccino, a Fort Bliss spokeserson, says post will only see a net loss of about 750 soldiers.
The Bulldog Brigade returned from a deployment in Afghanistan about a year ago.
