El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Mayor John Cook bid El Paso farewell in style.
Hundreds of people gathered at the Downtown Convention Center for the Mayor's "Farewell Fiesta" Friday evening.
The party was to celebrate Mayor Cook's 14 years of public service -- six years as City Representative and eight years as Mayor of El Paso.
It was open to everyone in the community and free!
Local businesses donated the drinks and food.
There were plenty of familiar faces at the celebration -- Las Cruces Mayor, Ken Miyagashima, EPISD Board Manager, Ed Archuleta, State Representative, Joe Moody, and City Rep, Emma Acosta, among others.
We spoke with Mayor Cook who said he was humbled by the celebrations.
"I didn't want any kind of party. I just wanted to fade away and just go home but my friends insisted I have this," said Mayor Cook.
The Mayor's last official day in office is June 24th.
