EL PASO, TX (KDBC) — A total of 22.6 lbs. of heroin hidden inside a car were discovered by CBP officers working at the El Paso port of entry, officials said.
They said the estimated street value of the seized contraband is $723,200.
“This is an enormous amount of heroin to be seized in a single incident,” said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso Port Director. “It represents more than one-third of the entire amount of heroin seized by CBP personnel in El Paso, West Texas and New Mexico during all of fiscal year 2012.”
They said the seizure was made just after 7:30 a.m. Thursday when a 2003 Lincoln LS sedan with a single male occupant entered the Ysleta international crossing from Mexico. A CBP drug sniffing dog searched the car and alerted officers. CBP officers continued searching and found 17 heroin filled packages concealed inside the hidden compartments. No arrests were immediately made and the investigation continues.
