EL PASO, TX (KTSM) — After several hours of deliberations and a night of being sequestered, the jury made a decision: Michael Hererra is guilty of murder.
The 29-year-old murdered his 39-year-old boyfriend, Cesar Torres in 2009. Defense attorneys argued Herrera was acting in self defense because he was afraid the victim was going to sexually assault him. They also said he suffered from mental illness, but the jury didn't agree.
Hererra faces 99 years in prison. The sentencing phase will likely continue tomorrow morning.
