Austin, TX (KTSM) — Texas schools are about to get a lot healthier. The state Senate passed a bill today by a 24 to 6 vote today that would force elementary and junior high schools to get rid of sugary drinks from their vending machines. High schools would be exempt.
Schools would only be allowed to sell water, milk, and pure juice. The proposal passed the House several weeks ago. It now awaits the governor's signature.
