EL PASO, TX (KTSM) — A family of three was inside a home where a fire started in the laundry room Tuesday morning, fire officials said.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the side of the duplex. Approximately 12 fire units and 31 firefighters responded to this incident. No injuries were reported.
Fire investigators determined the fire started in the laundry room and spread throughout 11342 Lake Loy. The unit connected to 11342 Lake Loy, did not sustain any fire damage. However, the wall that connects the two units was compromised and those occupants will be displaced while the wall is repaired, investigators said. The unit at 11342 Lake Loy Drive is considered a total loss and damages are estimated at a total of $98,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
American Red Cross of El Paso is assisting a total of 8 displaced individuals.
