El Paso, TX (KTSM) — This is drought awareness week at KTSM, and El Paso Water Utilities needs your help conserving water. El Paso receives much of the city's water from Elephant Butte Reservoir which is at seven percent capacity.
Due to a water shortage, this year's annual release of water from the dam has been delayed until June 1st to help with conservation efforts. El Paso Water Utilities is asking residents to conserve water by sticking to the city's even/odd watering schedule. They also urge El Pasoans to skip watering yards some of those days, at least until June 1st, to help with the efforts.
Texas is currently in a legal battle with several other states over water rights to the Rio Grande.
