El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Dozens of volunteers donated their time Thursday to help veterans in need. Community members drilled, painted and cleaned the floors and walls of Casa Vida de Salud in Central El Paso.
Formerly known as the 'Veterans Homeless Shelter,' Casa Vida has been running on volunteer power since May 2012. Casa Vida organizers say the Veteran's Administration defunded their program in 2012.
Red Day is a national annual event drawing volunteers from Keller Williams Realty. "Everyone of these realtors today is busy and they've stopped what they're doing to come here and donate their time and they're money. We've taken an offering to buy meat for the freezer. We've organized a canned drive to bring food to the pantry," Kevin Cooper of Keller Williams Realty said.
Organizers say the volunteers also donated about $500 to the program.
