ANTHONY, NM (KTSM) — Several law enforcement agencies took part in an operation in Anthony, New Mexico aimed at getting wanted criminals off the streets.
"We were asleep and I just woke up from the bed really, really scared," said Bertha Bivar.
"I was asleep and I heard a big explosion so my mom went after me to see if I was ok," said Luis Martinez.
Families in Anthony woke up to a loud boom at about 5 a.m. Wednesday and that's when they also saw and heard helicopters hovering above.
"It was like a really bad explosion," said Bivar.
Bivar made sure her children were safe, and then she called her neighbors and police.
"They said not to come out; nobody can come out so we were just looking from the window," said Bivar.
She and her children then watched as officers and agents surrounded a home two doors down, as part of a multi-agency state-wide warrant round up.
"I saw the police they got the kids and put them in the car and they were in their car, the police car," said Bivar.
Neighborhood children said they went to the home on Old Field Circle and Pond Wood Drive several times to play with children who live there but were not welcomed and the parents would kick them out.
We saw a lot of police activity on other roads around town as well and Bertha said she talked to friends in other neighborhoods who woke up to the same thing.
"She told me too that around her house, they had a lot of police too. A lot," said Bivar.
We’re waiting to learn more about this operation and who authorities were targeting.
