El Paso, TEXAS — You've probably noticed the large construction project off I-10 next to Cielo Vista Mall.
It's called the Fountains at Farah and when the work is complete it will be one will be the largest shopping center in the city with 70 stores. The location has special meaning here in El Paso. It's where the Farah Garment Factory once was and employed many El Pasoans.
While some may think the new center will be competition for Cielo Vista, Todd McCoy with Centergy Development, says it will actually promote cross shopping for the two retail centers.
While some may think its competition, Todd McCoy with Centergy Development says it will actually promote cross shopping for the two retail centers.
"They're gonna have the ability to stay here all day and eat at these restaurants and end up when they're finished here, go across the street," said McCoy.
There are very few projects like the outdoor power lifestyle center, around the country, and there will be much more than just great shopping.
"The interactive fountains are gonna be where we're gonna have an amphitheater, a lawn for seating to watch concerts," said McCoy.
With only 7 months left, construction is right on schedule. Now before they got started they had to remove 350,000 cubic yards of dirt and then put in 150,000 yards of concrete.
NewsChannel Nine was able to tour the construction site. Some stores will have a soft opening as early as July.
"The community's been awesome to work with, its been a great environment. We've really enjoyed it as a team," said Scott Finney with M&J Construction.
While any of the possible retailers cannot be confirmed, an announcement can be expected in a couple of months.
