The New Mexico State University track and field team will be competing in two different meets this weekend with Mt. Sac Relays, at Walnut Calif., and the Michael Johnson Classic at Waco, Texas.
Courtney and Camille Schultz will be competing at the Mt. Sac Relays where they will be competing in 10,000m. The rest of the team will be traveling to the Michael Johnson Classic to compete in a variety of short distance, middle distance, long distance, hurdles, relays and field events.
NM State has only two more weekends of competition before the team travels to Arlington, Texas, for the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on May 8-11.
“The team has progressed well and they are always improving,” said assistant track and field coach Christopher Huff. “In order to be where we want to be at the end of the season, everybody across the board needs to perform at their best in their area.”
The Aggies are coming off the weekend where they competed at the UTEP Invitational where the team finished with great results in a variety of events, including the relays.
In the 4x100m relay, NM State finished third overall with a time of 45.42, placing the team third all-time for NM State and first in the conference. Junior Alishia Perkins, senior LaSasha Aldredge, junior Brianna Cromartie and sophomore Kendra Walker competed in the 4x100m team. In the 4x400m relay, NM State finished second overall with a time of 3:42.77, placing second all-time for NM State and third in the conference. Freshman Cherrish Morrison, Perkins, Aldredge and Cromartie competed for the Aggies in this team.
In the 200m, three of the four final spots were filled by Aggies. Perkins finished second overall and first for NM State with a time of 23.61, moving her up to third all-time for NM State and first in the conference. Cromartie finished third overall and second for NM State with a time of 23.64, giving her a new career-best time and second in the conference. Aldredge finished fourth overall and third for NM State with a time of 23.79.
In the 800m, three of the top six spots were filled by Aggies. In third place, freshman Latrice Brooks finished with a time of 2:17.20. Junior Kayla Nagunst finished second for NM State and fifth overall with a time of 2:17.56, and sophomore Diana Hawk finished sixth overall and third for NM State with a time of 2:18.27. Junior Carly Porter also competed in this event for the Aggies.
In the 400m hurdles, junior Zoe Meade finished fifth overall with a time of 1:02.69, moving her up to fourth all-time for NM State and seventh in the conference. Freshman Alysha Bolduc also competed in the event.
In the high jump, Meade marked a height of 5-04.5 (1.64m) for third place overall. Senior Deserae Cota also competed in this event. In the pole vault, sophomore Taylor Black finished second overall with a mark of 11-06.5 (3.52m), moving her up to second all-time for NM State. In the shot put, senior Kelsey Brennan finished fourth overall with a mark of 43-10.75 (13.38m). Brennan also finished first overall in the javelin with a throw of 150-06 (45.87m). Sophomore Tiffany Gerber finished second overall in the javelin with a mark of 140-09 (42.91m), moving her up to fifth all-time for NM State. Sophomore Nicolette Serrao threw a mark of 127-05 (38.84m) to improve upon her career-best mark.
