EL PASO — The search continued Tuesday for a woman who ran over a little girl with an SUV and then left her lying along the street in east El Paso. Six-year-old Genesis Galicia was in the hospital with serious injuries and she underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon at El Paso Children's Hospital.
"When I saw the little girl laying there with blood on her legs, I was just like, 'Oh my god.' It was really bad," said neighbor Alejandra Galvan.
There's was still blood on the sidewalk and the girl's sock nearby.
Galvan said her two sons were playing with 6-year-old Genesis in front of her house just before an SUV hit the girl on Sea Breeze and East Glen at 5:15 p.m. Monday.
"They stopped, picked her up, told her she was going to be OK and put her on the sidewalk and that's when I came out. She was already laying there and she was crying," said Galvan.
After putting Genesis on the sidewalk, the driver got back into their SUV and drove off.
"I came running outside and she was laying there in front of the tree," said Galvan.
Galvan said her sons were able to tell police the SUV was dark-colored and had tinted windows. They said the driver was a woman wearing a Dallas Cowboys tank top and a baseball cap.
"I think it's horrible. I don't know how they can just take off. The person should have stood there, called 911 or knocked on someone's house but she shouldn't have left. It's just like treating it like it's just an animal leaving it on the sidewalk," said Galvan.
Galvan said whoever hit little Genesis needs to go to police.
"She wouldn't like it if someone did that to one of her kids or any relatives that are little. She's a coward," said Galvan.
Police were urging the woman to turn herself in or if you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 566-TIPS.
