(CNN) — The FAA has ordered inspection of more than one thousand Boeing 737 jets. The inspections will focus on pins which attach the horizontal stabilizers to the fuselage.
There are concerns about whether a coating used to protect the pins from corrosion was applied correctly. Premature failure of the pins could cause pilots to lose control of the aircraft.
The investigation will focus on 737's that entered into service in 1998 or later. It is not expected to affect airline schedules.
