Santa Cruz, C.A. - The UTEP men's golf team took 13th place at the Western Intercollegiate, which concluded on Sunday in Santa Cruz, Calif.
The Miners climbed one spot in the team standings in the final round, finishing with a 54-hole total of 1121 (368-384-369).
Top-ranked California was champion of the 14-team tournament, which also featured third-ranked Washington, fifth-ranked UCLA, seventh-ranked Stanford and 11th-ranked USC.
The Miners' Martin Simonsen had a solid final round, carding a 69 to finish in a tie for 24th place, seven over-par (70-78-69-217). UTEP's Roberto Ruiz tied for 38th place (70-76-75-221), Devin Miertschin tied for 60th place (77-79-70-226), Jerry Castrellon finished 74th (73-75-82-230), Jere Pelletier tied for 81st place (84-77-73-234) and Jacob Loya finished 86th (78-78-82-238).
UTEP will play in the Conference USA Championship April 21-23 in Texarkana, Ark.
