El Paso, T.X. – The UTEP tennis is set to close the regular season as the Miners (11-11) go against Utah State (5-9) on Thursday (2 p.m. MT) at the El Paso Tennis Club.
To make the day more special, senior Martina Trierweiler will be honored on senior day. The native of Brazil first donned the Orange and Blue in 2008 and is currently playing her best tennis since coming to the Sun City.
Trierweiler’s 18 overall wins during the 2012-13 season is already a career high and the most since winning 15 her freshman season. She has posted 11 wins in singles dual-match play, while compiling a 9-6 record at the No. 2 spot. Her eight wins in dual-match singles play and 11 in doubleshelped her squad to a 16-7 record her first spring season in 2009.
To start her senior season, she won the white singles main draw over NM State’s Annemieke Witte, 7-6, 6-4, at the 2012 Aggie Women’s Tennis Invitational during the fall season.
Trierweiler and junior Rebeca Calvillo have teamed up to post a 12-9 at the No. 1 doubles spot during the spring season. Her 63-career double’s wins ranks second all-time in school history.
Not only has she excelled on the tennis court, but also in the classroom as she has been named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll the last three years.
Trierweiler’s career will come to a close when the Miners travel to Houston, Texas for the Conference USA Championships April 18-21.
