El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Former astronaut and El Pasoan Danny Olivas is now a children's book author. Olivas signed copies of his new book, "Endeavour's Long Journey," at the EPISD Gene Roddenberry Planetarium on Saturday.
The story follows a young boy's trip to outer space aboard the space shuttle Endeavour. The book is part of a series that will include stories about each of the space shuttle's including the Challenger and Columbia. Olivas said there are also plans in the works for a larger series of books about space history.
All proceeds from "Endeavour's Long Jourhey" book sales will go towards reopening the Insights Science Center at Alamo Elementary.
"If we want to continue to inspire the next generation of astronauts or scientists being able to have access to those kinds of exhibits that were in the Insights and will be in the future, so we're here supporting Insights Museum," said Olivas.
