MCGREGOR RANGE, N.M. — As part of semi-annual qualifications, Soldiers from the 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, fired more than 8,000 rounds from M2 .50 caliber machine guns at McGregor Range, March 4.
Thirty gun crews executed convoy operations by shooting a series of targets placed at different intervals with two canisters of ammunition.
First Lt. Richard Miller, Battery B, 4-27th FA, 2nd BCT, 1st AD range officer-in-charge, confirmed all firers shot approximately 246 rounds each during their qualification.
“It gets Soldiers ready to go downrange to familiarize them with how a live-fire should look,” said Sgt. 1st Class Eric Alejandro, range safety, Battery B, 4-27th FA, 2nd BCT, 1st AD.
