EL PASO — Five bills have been written in light of the cheating scandal at EPISD and Wednesday, three of them passed the senate.
The bills that passed include: SB 122 which will allow school board trustees to be removed from office for incompetence or misconduct.
SB 123 gives the Texas Education Agency the power to issue subpoenas to better investigate complaints.
SB 124 makes manipulating data submitted to the TEA illegal and a felony.
Two other bills will likely be voted on by the full senate next week.
They are SB 119 which requires EPISD to give remedial classes and alternate graduation for kids pushed out in the scheme.
SB 121 heightens protection for whistleblowers in school districts.
