(CNN) — Crews set off a series of blasts in Marble Falls, Texas which just north of San Antonio and in a matter of seconds an old highway truss bridge was demolished.
City officials and spectators gathered to watch the implosion from a safe distance. The explosives were so powerful they knocked out 9-1-1 and phone service so crews are now working ot restore service in three nearby counties.
A resident who lives 26 miles away from the blast said she could feel her house shake. The implosion cleared the way for a bigger and safer bridge across the lake.
