UTEP sophomores Cedrick Lang and McKenzie Moore were tabbed to the five-man Conference USA All-Academic Team on Friday. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and be a starter or key reserve.
Lang has a 3.20 grade point average and is majoring in Communication. Moore has a 3.25 GPA and hasn’t declared a major.
The other selections to the team are Rice’s Seth Gearhart and Austin Ramljak, and Tulane’s Ben Cherry.
Lang ranks third on the team with 26 starts and is averaging 5.3 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 55.3 percent from the field. He is UTEP’s second‐leading rebounder and has led the Miners in rebounding on nine occasions this season. Lang has blocked nine shots on the year and has scored in double figures on six occasions. Lang scored a season‐high 14 points in a 91‐84 triple overtime win over nationally ranked Oregon on Dec. 19 and established a career‐high with 15 rebounds against Tulsa on Feb. 9.
Moore has been a major contributor for the Miners since joining the team in mid‐December. He is averaging 8.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 blocks and 1.3 steals while shooting 45 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from three‐point range and 72.5 percent from the line. Moore has scored in double figures on eight occasions and has secured five or more rebounds in 15 of his last 20 contests. He hit the game‐winning 25‐foot shot at the buzzer to lift the Miners past East Carolina on the road, 68‐67 on Jan. 26.
UTEP’s only other C-USA All-Academic selection previously was Isaac Gordon in 2010.
