While no contract has been offered yet, Austin Trout has already begun training camp in preperation for a May 4th unification bout against WBC junior middleweight champ Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Trout (26-0, 14 KOs) says he will not waste time waiting for a deal to be offered with the fight potentially months away.
"I'd rather be ready for nothing than not ready for something. We are already training now. We are definitely going to be ready May 4th," said Trout.
"Big major shout out to Canelo for stepping up. Making his opinion and desires known and speaking up as a man and making the people that work for him do what he wants. Shout out to you Canelo for putting your big boy pants on."
Trout manager Bob Spagnola told NC9 last week that he thinks a contract will be coming at any moment. The bout would be the co-main event on the Mayweather/Guerrero card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas televised on Showtime.
