The UTEP Softball team beat Louisiana State-Alexandria, 5-4, and then lost to Texas Southern, 4-1, at North Oak Park Saturday.
Junior Alanna Leasau hit her second home run of the weekend giving the Miners the early lead. She hit a three-run shot in the bottom of the first inning. Miners went on to score two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Senior Cynthia Villastrigo (1-0) won her first game of the season.
UTEP came out on the losing end to Texas Southern. Freshman Danielle Pearson knocked in a run during the top of the fourth inning to tie the ball game 1-1, but the Jaguars put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to clinch the game.
The Miners (5-5) will play South Dakota (9 a.m. MT) Sunday.
