Legislature may vote to change legislative documents to be gender neutral

NEW MEXICO — What's in a word?

Apparently a lot.

The New Mexico Legislature may vote to revamp all their legislative documents to have gender "neutral" language.

Instead of "him," language would change to "him or her" and from "his" to "his or her."

Gender-neutral language shall not be used if it alters the meaning of the law being amended or compromises the clarity of the writing.
