EL PASO — Ascarate Park in the lower valley will soon be come a grand experiment in the greening of El Paso.
Commissioner's Court today approved a tree farm in the southeast corner of the park, where the county will tend and grow 300-350 seedlings. At the proper time workers will then transplant the young trees into all areas of the park, including picnic areas and the golf course.
Ascarate Park had a tree farm previously but it's been dormant for many years
Commissioner Sergio Lewis, who spearheaded the tree farm idea, predicts this project is just the beginning of something bigger, and greener. In time, he says, other tree farms may serve other parts of the city.
