Several sources have told Newschannel 9 that WBA Light Middleweight boxing champ Austin Trout is in New York City and is negotiating with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, and that the two camps met again today, but no deal is set, they will resume negotiations tomorrow. They are hoping for a May 4th bout in Las Vegas for Alvarez's WBC title, and Trout's WBA title. It would be the undercard for the Floyd Mayweather bout. Mayweather's opponent has yet to be determined.
Trout is 26-0 with 14 knockouts, and is the reigning WBA Light Middleweight champ. Alvarez is 41-0 with 30 knockouts, and is the reigning WBC Light Middleweight champ.
Also, NC9 has learned charges are still pending from Trout's New Year's eve's public intoxication charge. It has not been dismissed, with a court date set for mid-February in El Paso.
