El Paso, TEXAS — It was a weekend devoted to the arts. Students from all over town participated and performed in an entertaining fine arts show.
Students sang, danced and painted for an audience at the downtown public library. A local artist and UTEP student organized the event called ARRE Lets Do This! meant to motivate El Paso youth to stay in school. She feels the arts are especially important for building confidence amongst students that may not have access to the arts.
"It's important especially since a lot of the arts are getting cut out of elementary, middle school arts and high schools. I think it's a really good way for kids to vent because school can get a little tough sometimes and I really feel through performance arts, they can really build a type of discipline and passion that you would need for things such as deadlines and homework, grants and scholarships," said local artist and UTEP student, Amalia Castro.
Castro is planning two more shows for the last weekend of May and June.
