EL PASO — El Paso firefighters took time Saturday to show people around their newest fire station in west El Paso.
The 8,700 square foot station is on Mesa Park near Mesa.
Since opening in November, firefighters have been able to provide faster fire and medical response to neighborhoods nearby.
"We had a gap in service in this area. By placing this station in service with an ambulance and apparatus shortened response times by quite a bit," said Captain Jorge Rodriguez.
Fire Station 31 is the department's 35th station.
The building is Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified as part of the city's green building initiative.
