SOCORRO — El Paso County Commissioners may take legal action to try and block the city of Socorro from annexing several parcels of land. A big crowd turned out at today's commissioner's meeting where the idea was discussed in executive session. Ultimately, commissioners decided to postpone potential litigation until February 4th. The annexation would take land from El Paso, San Elizario, and Clint, and many at Thursday's meeting say they fear their taxes would go up.
"Their wasteful spending is catching up to them and they need the additional revue and what better way to do it than annex all the business properties. We need to put a stop to that," said Rene Rodriguez, a concerned businessowner from San Elizario.
Socorro city spokesperson Dave Garcia disputes that claim, and says Socorro does not have any financial problems.
