EL PASO — If you need a flu shot but have found locations are short on supply, you're in luck; more flu shots have arrived in El Paso
Immunize El Paso, a non-profit immunization outreach group, has been able to secure additional vaccines to help fulfill the heightened demand for vaccinations. The demand for the shot has increased in the midst of an increase in flu cases and the increased need for prevention. In El Paso, four people have died from the flu.
“We have successfully reached out to every one of our pharmaceutical supply chain partners as well as the Texas Vaccines for Children Program to get additional doses allocated to our area.” said Dusty Warden, Outreach Coordinator for Immunize El Paso.
Over the past two weeks, thousands of influenza vaccines have been delivered by IZEP throughout the community and the demand has not yet subsided. Area schools as well as private industries are scheduling clinics to allow for employees, faculty, staff, students and their family members to get immunized and protected. Immunization is the most effective avenue to provide protection against the flu, followed by the employment of non-pharmaceutical interventions such as frequent hand washing and covering your cough.
“The additional shipments mean we should be able to make sure everyone who wants to get immunized will be afforded an opportunity.” Warden continued.
Immunize El Paso’s eastside clinic is operating under an extended schedule during the rush. School-based vaccination clinics can also be found throughout the city.
