Monday is Martin Luther King day, the federal holiday observing the civil rights leader.
Martin Luther King day is a day of service for many Americans who come together to serve their neighborhoods and communities. Dr. King delivered his most famous speech, "I have a dream", on Aug. 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. he led the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s, helping end racial segregation. He was also an advocate for non-violence and he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Dr. King was assassinated on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tenn. on April 4, 1968.
James Earl Ray was sentenced to 99 years for King's death. Ray died in 1998. Dr. King would have been 84 on Jan. 15.
