LAS CRUCES, NM — The head coach of New Mexico State University's basketball team is speaking out for the first time about a player who's been arrested for vehicular manslaughter. Coach Marvin Menzies says Emory Coleman is still a part of the Aggies program but has been suspended from the team pending the outcome of the investigation.
Last January, Coleman was allegedly texting and driving in Alamogordo when he hit another vehicle killing an 83 year-old driver.
"It's a sad deal. My heart goes out to the family to the gentleman that was involved in the accident. At this point we're fact finding and we're going to let the athletic department administrators handle that," said coach Menzies.
Coleman has played a total of 12 minutes this year and has not scored. He is free on bail.
