Researchers are now using bugs to battle the flu virus. The Food and Drug Administration approved a new vaccine called Flubok that is made by injecting flu genes into an insect virus and growing it in caterpillar cells. This process avoids the current, lengthy method of growing the flu vaccine in chicken eggs.
Experts said the vaccine can be given to people with egg allergies, and will be helpful in the event of a pandemic when we need vaccine quickly.
