A report by the American Veterinary Medical Association reveals New Mexico has "gone to the dogs."
According to the report, nearly 70% of New Mexicans own a pet, and they're mostly dogs. That makes them second in the nation, just behind Vermont. Almost half of all New Mexicans own some kind of mutt.
Washington D.C. claims the bottom spot for pet ownership -- only 20% of households in that state have a dog or cat.
