EL PASO- This year's flu season is one of the worst on record.
So far, 1,989 cases of the virus have been reported in the county. That number does not include the month of January, the first month of 2013. That's a huge increase from just 31 cases reported during this same period last year.
On Tuesday, hundreds turned out at Centro San Vicente on Alameda to get free flu shots. The clinic received a generous donation of more than 1,000 shots and they started giving them out early Tuesday morning to anyone over the age of three.
The lines moved pretty fast. The shot only took about twenty seconds to administer and with this being one of the worse flu seasons, most in line said it was worth it.
The clinic estimated 800 people will have received the flu shot by the end of the day. The clinic will close its doors at 8 p.m.
The flu shots are no longer available as of early Wednesday morning.
