EL PASO — January 13 is National Amber Alert Awareness Day.
The Amber Alert is named after Amber Hagerman, 9, or Arlington, Texas who was kidnapped and murdered.
Her abduction sparked a national movement to create an Amber Alert in every state.
In 2006 the United States Department of Justice marked the 10th anniversary of Amber Hagerman's death by declaring January 13 Amber Alert Awareness Day.
As of January 7, 2013, the Amber Alert program is credited with the safe recovery of 495 children.
