The Census Bureau is considering making changes to their 2020 Census questionnaire, moving "Hispanic" from the ethnicity to race category, according to NBC Latino.
Latinos are primarily the ones who fill the "some other race" category or leave that section blank. Numerically, the Census reported that 7.1 percent of households selected "some other race" in 2010, many of which were Latino, said NBC Latino.
“Some respondents view their Hispanic origin as a race,” said Nicholas Jones, from the U.S. Census, in a Washington D.C. in a press conference in 2012.
Consideration in changing the forms also stemmed from a study of Latino responses involving focus groups discussing racial and ethnic identification.
