VINTON, Texas — Police arrested a man and a woman who allegedly led Anthony, Texas Police on a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle.
According to Anthony, Texas Police Chief Carlos Enriquez, an officer approached the two at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday while they were sitting inside of a Toyota Tundra pickup in the Pilot Travel Center parking lot on Antonio St. The officer said the two sped away in the truck and led the officer on a high speed chase for about 5 miles.
Police said the driver of the pickup lost control and spun off the road and into a desert area. According to police, the man and the woman got out of the truck and ran away.
Police later determined the Toyota Tundra was reported stolen out of San Antonio.
The El Paso Sheriff's Office, Texas State Troopers and the Customs and Border Protection helicopter joined in the search for the suspects.
A tip from a homeowner led authorities to the suspects who were reportedly hiding in the back shed of a Vinton home for more than two hours.
"The homeowner of the residence arrived and noticed something was not right in his home, and he immediately notified law enforcement officers, which in turn, they responded here," said Chief Enriquez.
The two were arrested and are facing several charges.
