The City of Sunland Park, New Mexico lost its former City Manager, Jaime Aguilera, back in February 2011, after he was arrested for extortion, blackmail, and other public corruption charges.
The City is starting fresh this new year and has selected 3 finalists for city manager from a pool of 35 applicants.
Roger K. Hedrick of Las Cruces is the first finalist. He is the former deputy director for community development and senior planner with the Doña Ana County government.
Gian Paolo Mammone of Dallas, Oregon is a former city administrator for Falls City, Oregon, a community of about 955 people in the northeastern part of the state.
Michael R. Nettles from Elmer, Oklahoma is a former city administrator for Altus, Oklahoma, an almost 20,000 person community in the southeastern part of that state.
"At this moment, I'm keeping an open mind. The City of Sunland Park, the people of Sunland Park in my opinion have lost trust in their government. With this new city manager, this manager needs to work on, along with the council and myself, the Mayor, in establishing trust among the City of Sunland Park," said Mayor Perea.
The Mayor hopes to present his choice to City Council sometime in January. After much scandal in government for the Sunland Park, Perea looks forward to the new city manager carrying out his duties with integrity and positively changing the image of the city.
