EL PASO — American made weapons continue to end up in the hands of criminals in Mexico. According to new numbers released by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, 68% of all weapons recovered at Mexican crime scenes over a 5 year period were traced to U.S. manufacturers or U.S. dealers who import firearms. The statistics are for the years 2007 to 2011. The ATF report does not identify how the guns ended up in Mexico or whether any were part of the government's Fast and Furious Operation where federal agents allowed some guns to be smuggled into Mexico in an attempt to identify and arrest high-level arms traffickers.
