Talks about Christmas movie traditions evolve to new beginnings in marriage proposal
EL PASO — Movie-goers braved the cold weather to stand in line and buy tickets at a Cinemark Theatre in West El Paso. They packed the theatre to catch a movie with loved ones. For many, it's part of their Christmas festivities each year -- something the whole family comes out to celebrate.
"It's been a long standing tradition for us to go to the movies either on Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day," said Jeff Steed.
Rima Assi said, "It's a family tradition, we come every Christmas Day with the family. There's 15 of us here today."
Many came for the premiere of "Les Miserables," a broadway spectacle, now film adaptation of French poet and playwright, Victor Hugo's historical novel.
Michael Rey and his girlfriend, Victoria Sanchez are musicians from Austin, Texas. They're visiting Victoria's family and sharing their movie-going tradition. But this year, Michael wanted to propose something new to Victoria -- he asked her to marry him during their interview with NewsChannel 9. Best wishes to them!
