Former President George Herbert Walker Bush is in intensive care at a Houston hospital. A spokesman for his office says the 41st president was admitted to the ICU on Sunday after a series of medical setbacks, including a fever.
Bush is said to be in guarded condition and that his doctors are cautiously optimistic.
His spokesman also says the 88-year old is alert and talking with medical staff, and is surrounded by family.
Bush has been in the hospital for more than a month. Doctors were initially treating him for bronchitis and a lingering cough. The former president has been in the hospital for just over a month. He was first hospitalized from November 7 through 19, then readmitted on November 23.
