Christmas festivities may already be underway, but some celebrations have yet to begin. Kwanzaa is set to begin on Dec. 26.
The week-long celebration honoring African heritage and culture is marked by participants lighting a Kinara, or candle holder. It is observed from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 every year and was first celebrated in 1966.
Kwanzaa consists of seven days of celebration and ends with a feast and gift giving.
