The most senior democrat in the U.S. Senate has passed away. Hawaii's Daniel Inouye, died Monday of respiratory complications. The 88-year old was the longest serving current senator. He was also president pro tem of the senate and third in the line to the presidency. Senate majority leader Harry Reid made the announcement on the senate floor last night. Inouye was a World War II hero and a medal of honor recipient.
