A shopping mall, in Newport, California went into lockdown on Saturday afternoon, after gunshots rang out in the outside parking lot.
No one was injured, and police arrested Garden Grove resident Marcos Sarinana Gurrola, 42, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, said Kathy Lowe, a spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Police Department.
Shoppers were evacuated, but remained calm as they left the building.
The incident comes just a day after a gunman killed 26 people, mostly children, in a school shooting in Connecticut, and just days after a deadly mall shooting in Oregon.
The suspect is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but police are not commenting on a motive.
The stores have since reopened.
