EL PASO — Operation Holiday Hoax is underway. Ice agents, Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Consumer Produce Safety Commission are all working together to stop counterfeit and pirated goods from making their way to the hands of consumers. Authorities are going to stores, swap meets, and flea markets to find the fake items like perfume, electronics, and clothing.
"The victim are American businesses, trade makers, and copyright holders, and the people who make legitimate products and when rights are violated American jobs are lost, business profits are stolen, and ultimately the consumer is cheated," said Dennis Ulrich with ICE.
Last year in El Paso alone, law enforcement officials confiscated more than 1,400 products costing more than $245,000.
