The murder trial continues for a Lower Valley man accused of stabbing his girlfriend's father.
Twenty-one year old Ruben Canales allegedly stabbed and killed 39-year-old Gerardo Juárez back in February. Police say an argument between the two men got out of control, and Canales grabbed a knife and stabbed Juárez in the back.
Today in court, jurors heard a 9-1-1 call that was placed by Canales on the night of the stabbing. The 9-1-1 operator who took the call that night testified today. An El Paso Fire Department Lieutenant and a homicide detective also took the stand. The detective told the court, witnesses tampered with the crime scene by washing the bloody knife and mopping the blood off the floors right after the stabbing.
Canales appeared calm in court this afternoon. His defense attorney argues he attacked Juárez in self-defense.
